Pebble crochet toys started in Samantha Morshed MBE’s spare room shortly after she landed in Bangladesh in 2004. This is where she set up Hathay Bunano PS, a not for profit organisation. Reaching out to 12 young women, she taught them to knit in just 3 weeks. They then began to fulfil their first orders for her ‘handicrafts project’.
By January 2009 there were over 2,000 women working in rural production centres across the country. Facilities included a creche and pre-schools where it was possible. Amongst other things, employees are paid a fair wage, work in a safe and healthy environment and aren’t discriminated against.
Following further success, the Pebble brand was created in 2010! We stock a beautiful collection of their Pebble Fair Trade crochet toys.
